2008 will be the 17th annual Salt Creek Sundance Ceremony.  The sundance is not a rite of passage into manhood, nor is it a test of bravery  or courage. Rather, the sundance is a form of prayer. It is one of the seven sacred ceremonies given to the Lakota people.

  • no drugs
  • no alcohol
  • no firearms
  • no profanity
  • no pets (especially dogs)
  • no cameras, video cameras, sketch pads, recording equipment
  • no violence is allowed on the Sundance grounds.

If you choose not to comply with Sundance rules, you will be asked to leave.

Everyone is responsible for their own camp sites. Bring every thing you need for primitive camping. Those who camp are expected to help with chores, such as security, kitchen duty, trash pickup, or keeping the creek bank clear of any trash or debris.

We would apreciate  that women on their moon, or monthly cycle not come to sundance but we realize this is 2007 and many women for what ever reason still come to the ceremony.  If you must come to sundance while on your moon (period) you must camp in moon camp or away from the from the arbor

Families with small children are responsible for them, and to know where they are at all times. Children under 16 must be in their camp by 10:00 p.m. Please start teaching your children that Sundance is a place for prayer before you get here with them.  Children are never too young to start learning respect, this awareness of where they are is very much a part of the "red road" and it is time we started teaching this to our children.

There are lots of expenses involved with putting on Saltcreek Sundance Ceremony.  There are porta pots to rent and there are an amazing number of people who arive with no food or camping gear.  Everyone chips in to help with these needs.     With gas prices as high as they are it is going to be even harder for folks to get here with all that they need. In 08  the need is even more critical with the ever rising gas prices and such.

Comming to sundance is a good time to clean out your pantry and closets, There are alot of folks who can use the items that you would donate to goodwill or somewhere else!

We have a great need for sage, cedar, sweet grass, and firewood for the ceremony.

    • The kitchen needs
      • coffee, tea, gatorade, drinks of all kinds
      • peanut butter, jelly, bologna, bread
      • just about any food that will keep in the heat
      • Ice, ice and more ice
      • paper products for the kitchen, along with toilet paper
      • trashbags, dish soap
      • loans of tents, laterns & tables and any camping gear
    • The healers need
      • herbs
      • dressing materials; bandaids, adhesive tape, 4x4's, 2x2's,
      • slings, washed clean muslin,
      • sterile saline water for burns and eye wash
      • just about any general first-aid & medical supplies

Like any other putting on a large ceremony we have expenses that must be covered by cash,  We have expenses such as the port-a-pots and dumpsters, $3,980. We also cover travel expenses for the helpers and singers. All financial donations are appreciated.

All donations are greatly appreciated
